How To Increase Pitching Velocity

By Lela Perkins

In baseball, throwing a good pitch is one of the most important aspects of the game because this will determine whether a team will have the upper hand or not. A good pitch will require a lot of individual muscle movement, concentration, and a lot of knowledge of physics. So if one would one to improve his game a thousand fold, then here are some steps on how to increase pitching velocity.

Now when one is a pitcher, he must understand that the only way to throw a good pitch would be to use the whole body. Now the upper body, the lower body, the hips, the arms, and the legs must all work together with proper timing. Because of this concept, a pitcher must equally exercise all parts of his body.

The next thing to do would be to practice throwing the ball with a very relaxed hand. If the hand is very tense, then the pitch will not be as fast as it is supposed to be. So always remember to relax the muscles and try to make the motion as fluid as possible.

Aside from the conceptual side of how to pitch, there is also the detailed and technical aspect of it. Now the first detail to take note of would be how the arm is positioned and moved. The arm must be pulled back enough in order to create a swift swinging movement.

After that, he must now concentrate on positioning his torso because this will also contribute to the force of the pitch. So remember to position the body sideways so that when one throws the ball, he will be able to twist the body at the right moment. This will create even more rotational or centrifugal force along with the arms.

The last thing to think of would be the leg movement which will give the pitch an entire jolt of power. If one would take time to look, he would see that a pitcher would raise his leg and smash it to the ground before he pitches. The main purpose of doing this is to create a sudden boost of power to the body and give the pitcher balance.

So when one throws the pitch, he should quickly smash his foot on the ground while at the same time twisting his body in order to create swinging force. At the same time, he should also twist his shoulders while swing his arm in a very fluid motion. At the last moment, the pitcher should now flick his wrist just right before he throws the ball in order to create an accurate throw and fast force.

So as one can see, all the motions have to be done in just one movement. Of course the preparation for the throw will take a little bit of time but the smashing of the leg, the twisting of the body, the rotation of the arm, and the flick of the wrist takes just one second. As long as one knows how to increase pitching velocity, he will know how to do this.
