Some Youth Football Training Drills

By Nelda Powers

In the world of sports, football is one of the sports that is extremely rough and would require a really strong body that can adapt to many types of physical situations. In order for the bodies of the players to become really strong, the coach would have to come up with some drills and exercises. Just to give beginner coaches an idea of some good drills, here are some youth football training exercises.

One of the first drills that one would be doing would be the jump squat. In this sport, leg power is extremely important because one will need to be jumping really high and running really fast. Sometimes he will be bursting into a sprint when he sees the opponent coming over to tackle him.

To do this exercise, one just simply has to squat down low in to the ground. From there, then he would have to jump really high into the air and then bend his legs while jumping. Of course he would have to repeat this exercise as many times as his coach tells him to.

The second drill that would be very beneficial to the players is known as the recovery exercise. This is the exercise that is specially designed for football and would help the player with hand balance. In a nutshell, this is training so that one will be able to balance his running and will also be able to get used to catching and passing the ball while he is sprinting.

In order to do this, the coach must first set three cones with the first one in front of the player to right, the second to the left, and the third one to the right again. The thing for the player to do here would be to run around the first cone and touch the ground there. After that, he must switch the ball to the next hand and do the same to the second cone.

The over speed drill is known to be a very hard one because it is also quite dangerous to do. In order to do this, the coach has to first find a steep hill for the players to run on. Basically, the players will be increasing their running control by trying to run down the hill without falling down.

Lastly, dummy tackling is one of the best exercises that would be used for the overall body conditioning of the players. Basically, the coach will have to set up a tackling dummy on the field. After doing that, the players must be able to push that dummy to a certain part of the field.

So basically, those are some of the youth football training drills that are commonly used by coaches in general. These drills are used in order to strengthen the entire body of the player and have him gain some skills as well. That way, he and the team will be able to be in tip top condition during the game and gain victory over the opponent.
